Susan received her B.S. in Journalism from Belmont and M.Ed. from MTSU in Elementary Education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction, grades K-6. She has worked in education for over ten years in various roles, from private tutor and home school teacher to Pre-K assistant. Susan loves seeing little minds learn and grow and watching their “a-ha!” moments. Susan is an East Nashville native and lives in Inglewood with her partner, Tommy, and son Mason, and her two dogs Pepper and Sammy. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and watching British murder mysteries.

Maggie Hughes attended Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal School in Memphis, and has valued Episcopal education since. Prior to ESN, she served as an assistant teacher at Knoxville Montessori School, and lead instructor at Mathnasium, where she developed tailored instructional materials for diverse learners. Ms. Hughes worked at the ESN summer camps where she quickly built strong relationships with the children. We're confident her skills and enthusiasm will enrich our 3K students' lives.

Ann Walker graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 2014 with a B.S. Degree in Collaborative Education. As a Nashville native, she returned home after graduation, and began her teaching career. For the past nine years, Ann Walker has taught PK. She is passionate about helping students become confident in who they are, while providing a safe, nurturing environment for them to do so. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and baking. Ann Walker lives in West Meade with her husband, Daniel, and their dog Hank.

Jocelyn was born and raised in St Louis, MO. She received her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Missouri Baptist University, but quickly found herself in the early childhood world. She has spent 11 years teaching in various settings, including a year-and-a-half in rural Peru. PK is her favorite age group to work with, as she loves being a part of the rapid growth and development that happens in these formative years. She loves the outdoors, hiking, camping, and enjoys a variety of fiber arts such as knitting, crocheting, and tatting.

Isabel Webb graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Lipscomb University in 2021. Since graduating, she has fallen in love with teaching. She started out by teaching drama, including the aftercare drama program at ESN. She could not be more thrilled to be assistant teaching full-time with the pre-kindergartners. She grew up doing children’s theatre, and has a passion for nurturing young minds and making sure every child feels safe and seen. She lives in West Nashville, and loves to read, sing, and play ukulele in her free time.

Katie joined ESN in the fall of 2017 as the PK teacher. She has a BS from Vanderbilt University in Human Development and English and started her teaching career as a fGrade 1 teacher with Teach For America in 1991. Since then she has had over 25 years of experience teaching 3-6 year olds with the majority of her experience as a lead kindergarten teacher at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School in Memphis. As a child, Katie attended an Episcopal school for Kindergarten through Grade and firmly believes in the mission of ESN to nurture the joy of learning and spirit of discovery in each of its students.

Mary Carter graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.Ed in Applied Child Studies from Vanderbilt University. Her graduate studies focused on curriculum design in free-choice learning environments in settings like the Nashville Zoo and the Adventure Science Center. She was a research assistant for a mathematical research intervention with noted educational researchers at Vanderbilt and enjoyed working for Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth coordinating programs for gifted elementary elementary students. Mary was a faculty member at Oak Hill School for seven years and spent two years as Assistant Director of the First Presbyterian Early Preschool. Overall, she has taught for 14 years in a wide range of age groups spanning from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Kindergarten is a true passion for Mary who enjoys all the milestones children celebrate during their Kindergarten school year. Mary lives in East Nashville with her husband, two children, and their Westie dog, Winston.

Bailey Wisniewski graduated with a BS in Child and Family Studies from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She was born and raised in Nashville, and returned home after college to begin her education career. Bailey has worked as a swim instructor, nanny, babysitter, horseback riding lesson instructor, and a PK-2 teacher. In her free time, Bailey loves to read, be outside, spend time with her friends and family, and play with her 3 pets.
When she was young, she would often make her friends play school, and she would always be the teacher.

Hales Hughes grew up in Bartlett, Illinois and moved to Nashville for college in 2020. Being a recent graduate with a Creative and Entertainment Industries degree from Belmont University, they are super excited to bring passion for the arts to this job. After leading children in outdoor education through the San Juan mountains in Colorado this summer, Hales is thrilled to continue their adventures with ESN this year!

Ashley Carr grew up in Spring Hill, TN. She has worked as a writing tutor, astrophysics copyeditor, camp counselor, Montessori substitute, illustrator, and grocery store manager. Ashley next decided to become a teacher, and is excited to be ESN's 2nd grade teacher!
Ashley loves animals, museums, exploring the natural world, drawing, cooking, reading, and working with people of all ages. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Harding University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching at Belmont University. This is her third year at ESN.

Bridget is an artist and Nashville native. She received her BA from University of Virginia in Art and Biology. She was then the founding art teacher at ESN, in the St. Ann's parking lot days. She went on to get her MFA in Painting from Boston University. In her free time she enjoys thrift store shopping with her wife, Mary Liza, and annoying her cat, Georgie.

Ms. McClanahan graduated from Stetson University with a degree in elementary education and a specialization in English to Speakers of Other Languages. Her teaching philosophy is centered around understanding and embracing the unique needs, backgrounds, and learning styles of each student. She aims to create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment where curriculum standards are not only met but exceeded.
Ms. McClanahan’s professional journey includes four years of experience as a lead elementary teacher, working in culturally, economically, and academically diverse school environments. During this time, her students consistently scored at or above state assessment levels and achieved high levels of individual growth. She has also assisted in Professional Learning Communities, where she has played a key role in developing grade-level lessons and curriculum programs. Additionally, her ability to communicate effectively with parents and colleagues alike ensures a supportive learning environment for all students.

Ms. Koval has over a decade of experience in the field of education, and brings a wealth of knowledge to our students. She holds a master’s degree in education, and dual bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and English. She earned recognition as Teacher of the Year during her tenure at Head Magnet Middle School. She's been a literacy department chair, and shaped curriculum as a professional development specialist. Particularly relevant to our needs, she's excelled as a homeroom teacher for elementary students.
Ms. Koval's diverse teaching background, covering various grades and educational settings, equips her with the understanding and flexibility to meet the unique needs of our students.

Rachel is excited to join the ESN team in the 2023-2024 school year. She has an Elementary Education degree from Elmhurst College with a minor in English and Reading Instruction. Rachel has a special passion for English that she explored in her semester abroad at Oxford University studying Medieval and Renaissance literature.
She started her teaching career in the Chicago Corp of Teach for America, and after finishing her TFA commitment moved to Nashville in 2015. Since moving, Rachel has worked as a 5th grade teacher in East Nashville, receiving the Blue Ribbon Teacher Award in 2022, and was a member of two school teams that received TN Rewards School status. Additionally, Rachel was featured in “Teach Like a Champion 3.0″ in 2021 and twice in the Teach Like a Champion blog.
As a new mom, she is excited to transition to ESN and be a part of a community that fosters joy for learning, authentic community, faith, and discovery! She shares her East Nashville home with her husband, a fellow-educator at Republic High School, her one year old daughter, and her dog Gigi. Outside of school you can find her voraciously reading, traveling, cooking, taking photos, walking or biking at Shelby, and spending cherished time with family!

Cameron grew up in northwestern Wisconsin and earned his bachelor’s degree in English Education from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. He moved to Nashville six years ago to begin his teaching career. Cameron comes to us from FCA in Franklin, TN where he taught middle school English and Speech. He is excited to join ESN as the middle school ELA teacher.
Cameron is an experienced educator, specializing in communications, literacy, and public speaking. He has a strong background in creating and adapting curriculum, planning individual lessons and training, and communicating with students, families and colleagues. He is passionate about helping students explore the joy of reading, writing, and finding their voice. Cameron fosters an inclusive, joyful, and meaningful learning environment where all students are valued and respected.
He lives in East Nashville and enjoys hiking, traveling, and basketball.

Henry is a Nashville native who returned to his hometown after graduating from Stanford University with a B.S. in Symbolic Systems. After working in tech for 3 years, he joined Episcopal School in 2021 to teach computer programming, as well as assist in 5th grade education and aftercare. Outside of school activities, Henry plays piano and bass for musical groups around town.

Angel is a Nashville native, with deep roots in the East Nashville community. A booklover since a very young age, Angel realized she wanted to pursue a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science while volunteering in the library of the local elementary school her children attended. Passionate about literacy, Angel’s main goal as a librarian is to curate an interesting, diverse collection of books that will inspire a lifelong love of reading in all the students at ESN. She lives in East Nashville with her two sons, two dogs and a cat she rescued from ESN’s original campus!

Hannah is thrilled to take on the role of music director as ESN. She is also the Children’s and Youth Choir Director at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Chapel on the Vanderbilt campus. Hannah studied music and vocal performance at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington and earned her elementary teaching license in her native S.F. Bay Area. She later earned her Masters and Montessori Certification at Belmont University and studied music education at Lipscomb. Prior to joining the ESN community, Hannah served many years as a lead teacher as well as the art and Spanish teacher at a local Montessori school. In her free time Hannah enjoys running and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband have two young boys and can often be found in the family section at NSC games.

Carol Netter Stix has over twenty years of experience teaching art to children (grades K-8) in her own studio and at Saint Peter’s Parochial School in Olney, Maryland, where she developed an art program that was praised and recognized when the school received its first National Blue Ribbon Award. Carol has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland. A versatile artist, Carol co-founded and developed a successful after-school art and summer camp program in Maryland. She has a passion for pen and ink drawing, mixed media, and acrylic painting, but enjoys all kinds of mediums used in art.
Carol grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and has lived in Paris, San Francisco, and the Maryland/DC area; she moved to Nashville in July 2018 to be closer to her children and granddaughter. Ben is a drummer and owns the BeHive in East Nashville; Katie is an interior designer at Anderson Design Group in Nashville. Carol loves encouraging children to explore the visual arts and different mediums as a means to discovering individual creative interests and talent. She is happy to being part of ESN’s continued growth as she builds an exciting educational art curriculum!

Tasia Lewis, a Nashville native, has worked and served in the childcare industry for seven years and has always appreciated working with children. Tasia began her career with New Life Learning Academy in 2012, serving in the role of directing the preschool activities and assisting with providing daycare instruction to ensure full compliance with state policies and procedures. She was also afforded the opportunity of working in the Welcome Center for the YMCA, where she enjoyed greeting and interacting with children of all ages.

Reverend Flo (also known as Ms. Flo, Mother Flo, or Mama Flo at her local parish) is passionate about children’s spirituality and creating art and resources that affirm the dignity of children. She is a co-author of the book Little Prayers for Ordinary Days and a founding member of the children’s band Rain for Roots. Rev. Flo, along with her husband and two adult children, have lived in the Nashville area since 2008 after leaving their native California. Her family enjoys playing music, bird watching, gardening, and playing with their Newfoundland dogs. Rev. Flo is a current graduate student at Vanderbilt Divinity School and will receive her Master of Divinity in 2025 with dual concentrations in Religion in the Arts and Contemporary Culture as well as Pastoral and Prophetic Congregational Leadership. She is ordained in the Anglican Free Communion and is Assisting Priest and Director of Children's Spiritual Formation at St. Mary of Bethany Parish in Nashville, an ecumenical eucharistic community.

The Rev. Richard Wineland grew up in the Allegheny Mountains of Central Pennsylvania, near the railroad city of Altoona. He studied at Penn State University and Goshen College in Indiana, graduating with honors with a bachelor’s degree in Music. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Mennonite Theological Seminary in Indiana in 1993 and is celebrating 26 years in ordained ministry this year. Richard served as a Mennonite pastor for 10 years prior to becoming an Episcopal priest, leading congregations in Pennsylvania, Indiana and Tennessee. He was also the founding Executive Director of the Community Music School of Goshen College, in Indiana, in 2000.
Presently, Richard is a staff priest at Christ Church Cathedral Nashville, and at St. Augustine’s Chapel at Vanderbilt University. He also teaches music and middle school history one day a week at One Tree Montessori School here in the city. He currently serves on the National Executive Councils of two church-wide ministries: the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, and Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Nashville NAACP, and is a member of the Beloved Community Commission for Racial Reconciliation of the Diocese of Tennessee. As a volunteer he has been deeply involved in a number of activist social change agencies throughout the course of his ministry, including Habitat for Humanity, the Nashville Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program, and World Relief.
Richard completed three years of graduate study in school and educational psychology at Andrew’s University, Michigan, and in 2023 will be receiving a Doctor of Ministry degree from Bexley Seabury Episcopal Seminary in Chicago. He is lifelong singer and musician, a published composer, and has performed at the Grand Ole Opry House and on national television. Richard has also been for several seasons an enthusiastic member of the Nashville Symphony Chorus, singing First Tenor. He has had some success as a writer, having a number of articles published in academic journals and denomination-wide publications over the past 20 years.
Richard is married to Lee Armstrong, a musician, poet, and registered nurse at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and together they have seven adult children, scattered from Texas to New York City. The Winelands live in Brentwood.

Rebecca Moll is native Texan and graduate of TCU where she earned a degree in Early Childhood/Special Education. After graduation, Becca taught special education in Fort Worth and first grade in Atlanta, GA. She was voted Teacher of the Year in 2008 and selected for the Klingenstein Summer Fellowship through Columbia University in 2009. With the collaboration of Westminster Schools and the Glen Institute, Becca has developed first grade curriculum that supports community service learning. She has been on the founding team of charter schools in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Nashville. Along the way,
Becca earned her masters from Kennesaw State University and served as a literacy specialist, grade level chair, and RTI/Special Education Coordinator. In 2020, Becca received a Blue Ribbon Teaching Award from Metro Nashville Public Schools. She has loved teaching third grade for the last two years at ESN. Becca lives in East Nashville with her husband, two dogs, and little girl. She loves lazy Sundays and reading a good page turner.

We are delighted to welcome Ms. Dorcas Unruh to our community as our new school counselor. Ms. Unruh will be with us on campus every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
Ms. Unruh brings a wealth of experience and a robust educational background to our school. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling from Central Methodist University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (Missouri). With over 30 years dedicated to counseling youth and families, especially those at-risk, Ms. Unruh's expertise lies in creating supportive environments that foster growth, understanding, and resilience. Ms. Unruh has worked most recently as a counselor at Faith Foundation Children’s Home in Fredericktown, Missouri, before which she served as their Director of Aftercare Services, and previously as a school teacher liaison, a substitute teacher, a family support specialist, a behavioral specialist, and a child care worker, all in Missouri. Ms. Unruh moved to Nashville just over a year ago.
In her role at Episcopal School of Nashville, Ms. Unruh will focus on promoting social-emotional wellness and growth among our students. Her approach includes offering brief teachings to enhance mental health awareness, providing short-term counseling interventions as needed, and making recommendations to parents and guardians to support our students' development. She will work closely with teachers and individual students, small groups, and also push into classrooms to deliver mini-lessons, ensuring a comprehensive support system that promotes positive social skills, healthy behavior, conflict resolution, empathy, self-awareness, and self-management. These efforts are aimed at fostering a safe and positive environment for mental wellness in children.
Ms. Unruh's dedication to the well-being of our students, coupled with her deep professional experience and personal commitment to education, make her a significant addition to our Episcopal School of Nashville family. We are confident that her presence will have a lasting positive impact on our school community.

Jason comes to the Episcopal School of Nashville following seven years serving as the Director of Operations at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. While at FPC he headed all operations including Security, Facilities, Recreation, IT, Food Services, and all contracted services, served on many committees, as well as acted as a liaison for Oak Hill School. With over seventeen years of experience in multifaceted facilities, security, and business operations management roles, Jason is excited to bring his knowledge and expertise to the team at ESN. Originally from New Jersey, Jason moved to Nashville in 2016 via NYC where he managed luxury high rise condominium buildings and acted as the property management company’s new build consultant. Jason attended the Stephen L Newman Real Estate Institute at Baruch College in their Project Management and Facilities Management programs, as well as Harvard Business School online in their Business Accounting program. He has earned and holds many professional licenses, certifications, and certificates through the New York City Fire Department, the National Recreation and Park Association, the National Swimming Pool Foundation, and the International Facility Management Association, as well as many more. Jason and his family are now happily located in East Nashville since 2017. He is married to Kristin, a small business owner and a full-time mom. They have a wonderfully adventurous son named Hudson who is in first grade at ESN, a brand-new baby boy named Flint, a cat named Dandelion, and a dog named Arya. Fun Facts: Jason is also a folk/Americana musician, he loves working with wood, and he loves to cook.

With over three decades of experience in education, Suzie has held roles as a teacher, a counselor, an assistant principal, principal, senior leadership specialist, and co-founder of an educational nonprofit. For the last three years she worked for national consulting firm Educational Directions where she developed customized academic improvement programs that significantly boost student outcomes and enhance the professional capabilities of educators.
During her tenure as a principal at Harmony Elementary and Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary Schools, Suzie led substantial improvements in student achievement, including marked increases in reading and math scores. Her leadership was instrumental in reducing achievement gaps and fostering an environment of academic excellence.
She is thrilled to be a Purple Martin and work with the Epicopal School community!

Karen joined Episcopal School of Nashville as the Director of Development and Communications in August, 2021. She is a native Texan and lifelong Episcopalian. Karen holds a B.A. in Communications from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. In Washington D.C., Karen worked for Speaker of the House, Jim Wright, Congressman Pete Geren and Congressman Chet Edwards in Communications, Systems Management and as a Legislative Aide. She has also worked for many years as a fundraiser for numerous local, statewide and national political campaigns. Karen worked for the non-profit Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County in Public Relations and Marketing and served as the Executive Director of the non-profit organization, Historic Southside, Inc., in Fort Worth, TX. Karen was the Digital Media and Communications Specialist for PATE Rehabilitation, Inc., a brain injury rehabilitation center in Dallas, Texas, before moving to Tennessee in 2016 to be the Director of Communications, in addition to fundraising and alumni relations for Camp Nakanawa for Girls in Crossville Tennessee. Karen is passionate about building strong foundations for children and is thrilled to be able to contribute to ESN’s mission of “nurturing the joy of learning and the spirit of discovery in each of its students.” Karen has one daughter, Maggie, who lives in Washington, D.C. Karen lives in East Nashville where you will see her out and about in the neighborhood with Bella, her canine “sidekick.”

Prior to joining the team at ESN, Naima was the enrollment manager at the Village School in Houston, TX, where she achieved a remarkable 32% increase in full-time enrollment within two months, and generated a 15% increase in applications through an enrollment initiative campaign.
Before the Village School, Ms. Bagot worked as a teacher, a learning specialist, a program developer, and a human resources officer in the oil and gas industry. She holds master’s degrees in Education and Sports Management, and teaching certifications in English & Composition 7-12, Generalist 4-8, and Physical Education EC-12. She's taught AP English, Practical Writing, Journalism, Yearbook, and ELA.
Ms. Bagot’s career is marked by a dedication to inclusivity and equity, values that resonate with our Episcopal identity and commitment to fostering a joyful and discovery-driven learning environment. She excels in developing and implementing strategic marketing initiatives that drive admissions growth, leveraging her expertise in digital marketing, social media management, and data analytics. -

Hadassah Bird has called Nashville home since 2008, when she moved here to start a small business and a family. After working as an entrepreneur for many years, Hadassah founded a youth theater company in 2018, which has brought drama programming to several homeschool programs, organizations, and private schools (including ESN) over the last 5 years. Hadassah is also an ESN parent, and is thrilled to support the work of this school as a member of the staff. In her spare time, Hadassah can be found writing plays and novels, taking long walks in Nashville’s many beautiful parks, and playing board games with her three children.

LaTerra Davis is a Nashville native and has been with ESN since it opened its doors in 2012. LaTerra graduated from Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Health Care Administration and Planning. She has been in the position of Director of Admissions for two years. Before that, LaTerra was the Director of the Aftercare Programs and a Pre-K Assistant. LaTerra has worked and served in the childcare industry for over seven years. She has been an East Nashville nanny, where she cared for children six weeks to 13 years old. In 2013, she was a YMCA after-school counselor at Smyrna Elementary. LaTerra also worked at the Margret Maddox YMCA in Yplay, the teen center, and the Preschool. LaTerra has a passion for children which is evident by the way she makes sure that the children have fun in a safe environment.

Kristen grew up just down the road in Atlanta, GA. She graduated with a degree in fine art from UNC Asheville in 2012, and moved to Nashville in 2016. Before joining the team at ESN, she worked as an account executive at NPR, a freelance graphic designer, and a touring singer-songwriter. Fun fact: in 2009, Kristen won an international bird call imitation competition. A self-proclaimed “ornithusiast,” she loves sharing her passion for birds with others through her online series Caterwauling With Kristen.

Anne Louise Cranwell has been a member of the ESN community since 2019 as a parent, volunteer and employee. She has lived in East Nashville for 10 years and is the mother of two wonderful boys. Anne Louise earned her Master of Arts degree in women’s history from Sarah Lawrence College and has worked as a teacher, coach and fitness instructor. In her free time, she enjoys playing outside, reading, seeing live music and supporting Nashville’s professional soccer team.

Brian Milligram is a New Jersey native who found his way to Nashville through his music. When he wasn't writing songs or playing shows, Brian worked as a cook in some of Nashville's finest restaurants. He played a major role helping to renovate the school this summer, and is excited to stay at ESN as our afternoon front desk associate. Be sure to say hello the next time you pop into the school!
